A land where we worship nine aspects of Goddess Durga, it is certainly a loss of face for all of us to know that the female-male ratio has fallen to .892 this year.Despite of the all our efforts we are left with such a mind boggling figure, it proves that our claim of creating awareness is fallacious. The government cannot be held fully accountable for the killing of female foetus since it is not only a trend in our rural areas but also in the urban cities which are more inflated with so called 'educated' young minds. The problem lies within our mindset. We as a society still hail a lady who gives birth to a baby boy whereas lesser attention is paid to some one who is fortunate to have a baby girl, which is regretful. Unless we address and pay attention to issues like these we can not become a developed nation we aspire to be by 2020. Examples like Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher,Hillary Clinton can be given at school and if possible some light can be thrown on the fact that not so long ago four of our big states were ruled by women chief ministers. People like Baba Ram Dev and other religious authorities have been clamouring against the striking of section 377 by the Delhi's court, through holding public meetings where the bigger issue like these need attention from them since they withhold the power to influence people. They must cut the comedy and pinpoint this issue in their camps otherwise soon they will have to start camps for gay men teaching them some gay yoga. I insist that Mr. Aamir Khan should direct another movie naming "Hum Saare ...Zameen Pe" to declare this truth.
I wrote this cos this issue has been very close to my heart.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely true. But what I feel is, this issue needs to be tackled mainly focusing on the rural areas because our government and many social groups have brought about a mass awareness regarding this issue in the urban areas. People in cities now, don't have any kind of distinction in their minds regarding a girl or a boy. I would also like to bring to your notice that the telivision has also highlighted this issue through programs like "Na ana iss desh meri laado" and "Balika Vadhu" whose area of focus is mainly what you have mentioned in your blog. So, we cannot deny the fact that awareness is being generated, though gradually, but YES, it is. But we must constantly keep trying to develop new ways to create awareness in the rural areas.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I would say, its a gud effort by you for a noble cause. Good work
Rural India is not so literate to get the positive message out of these T.V serials and may b that is why supreme court is thinking of banning them.I support this cos unless we as a society prove that we are mature enough we can become an easy prey to the commercial world.
ReplyDeletewell its very sad to see such instances taking place in our country, especially the pre-pregnancy tests. People are just not willing to have a girl child. Why do this? Just because she's an added responsibility on the father's back. It is a serious offence if people think like this. The girl plays a vital role not only in the household but also in the corporate world. We cannot deprive them of the right to live, to study, to work. Just imagine a world with no women, human race would cease to exist if everybody starts to think in this manner. We can still understand the rural people's conditon, but what about people living in urban areas. They have no right to do this. Speaking of baba Ram dev reminds me of one of my fav songs from notting hill- U SAY IT BEST WHEN U SAY NOTHING AT ALL !!!!!!!
